How to assess a relevant link opportunity

A useful placement is more than a metric on a prospecting sheet.

Check topical fit

Review the site’s main themes and the specific page where a link might appear. Ask whether its readers would reasonably follow the reference.

Check editorial quality

Look for clear authorship, coherent articles, sensible outbound links and visible editorial standards. A high metric does not fix an irrelevant page.

Check the destination

Make sure your target URL supports the claim around the link. Record the live page, anchor and link attributes for reporting.

Putting it into practice

Start with one page, one audience and a clear purpose. Document your assumptions, review the result and adjust the next step based on what you learn. Sustainable visibility grows from repeated useful decisions.
